Gender Justice Nevada champions the healing, dignity, and justice of diverse trans, intersex and gender non-conforming persons and communities in Nevada by offering inclusive anti-violence programs. We support and affirm all diverse identities and lives of Nevada's sexual minority persons, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and 2-spirit persons. We respect the essential principle of community-wide coalition-building among all oppressed communities, including but not limited to communities of diverse class, age, sex/gender, race/ethnicity, color, national origin, religious and spiritual beliefs, geography, physical ability, and medical condition. We acknowledge the fundamental need to support creative and artistic expression in its many forms as integral to our efforts. We strive to honor and preserve our collective and individual histories. We do not have a political or religious affiliation, nor are we formally affiliated with any other organizations or political groups.
Our guiding justice and anti-oppression principles:
* GJNV was created by trans, intersex and gender non-conforming persons to engage with, integrate, empower and support our communities.
* We organize around the intersectionalities that affect our lives as whole persons: race, class, age, sex/gender, sexual orientation, documentation status, spiritual affiliation, physical ability. We honor that our trans/intersex/GNC identities are not all that define us. We are persons of color. We are the working poor. We are undocumented. We are differently abled. We are sex workers. We are queer.
* We recognize that binary consciousness, particularly when applied to sex/gender, reinforces other systems of oppression, particularly white supremacy.
* We begin transforming ourselves and each other by challenging our perceptions and assumptions, critically analyzing our language and what we “know,” and recognizing power dynamics in intrapersonal, interpersonal and social/cultural relationships.
